Hong Kong remains at the top of the traveler's list for many reasons — from its dynamic modern landscape and unparalleled efficiency and development to its first-class facilities and picturesque natural oases. These qualities are also evident in hotels that have used the three-year lockdown as an opportunity to improve service, upgrade rooms, and add new amenities. Typically, major international brands in the city are concentrated in Victoria Harbor, offering extraordinary views from windows and private terraces that make you not even want to close the curtains. However, other areas also offer exceptional places worth seeing, such as Tsim Sha Tsui on the Kowloon side. The following list contains the top 11 best hotels in Hong Kong, so you can choose the option that best suits your travel style and preferences.

Mondrian Hong Kong

If you want to be in the heart of the action, among the streets that are always bustling with traffic, we recommend booking a room in one of the top-rated hotels in Hong Kong. Additionally, the Mondrian Hong Kong is just a few minutes from the city's most famous attractions, such as the Avenue of Stars Promenade and Kowloon Star Wharf.

The hotel impresses with its unusual exterior, as the building itself is shaped like a triangle. Most of the rooms (there are more than 300 of them) offer incredible hypnotic views of Victoria Harbor, and the spacious interiors are dominated by an atmosphere that combines old and new Hong Kong. Despite the fact that the complex boasts neither a spa nor a swimming pool, it impresses its guests with drinks and fine dining. In particular, you can visit the extraordinary Italian restaurant Carna with Dario Cecchini at the helm or the equally impressive Avoca, open all day. At the bar, you can enjoy fantastic cocktails that showcase local flavors, and in the evening, feel the vibe from DJ performances.

Ritz-Carlton

In a city with more than 9,000 high-rise buildings, what could be more appropriate than to take this opportunity to sleep, eat, and even swim at an altitude of almost 500 meters above sea level? This is truly an incredible experience that you should not miss. The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong is one of the most sophisticated and best hotels in Hong Kong. You can stay in luxurious, spacious rooms located between the 104th and 116th floors. The rooms even include window seats so that guests can comfortably contemplate the breathtaking views that stretch from Victoria Harbor to the new West Kowloon Cultural District. From this height, the latter looks like a miniature village, but here, you will find the Xiqu Center Cantonese Opera House, the huge new M+ Museum, gardens, art parks, and a picturesque waterfront.

If possible, we recommend including access to the club room in your reservation. The restaurants on the 102nd floor, offering Italian and Cantonese cuisine, are also worth a visit. Both restaurants have been awarded Michelin stars. If you want to have a few cocktails before or after dinner, head to the 118th floor to the Ozone Bar.

St. Regis

Despite the fact that the St. Regis is located in the business district, next to the exhibition and conference center, don't let this location fool you, because this is not a corporate hotel where company employees gather to improve their spirit and productivity. Behind the silver facade of the building lies a stylish establishment, which was designed to the smallest detail by the talented Andre Fu. The lobby, although not wide, looks majestic and intimate, leading to an elegant mystery bar and an outdoor terrace.

This magnificent Hong Kong hotel pays special attention to food. In particular, the two restaurants are overseen by Michelin-starred chefs. On-site dining options include the following:

  • L'envol, which specializes in gourmet French cuisine;
  • Rún, where you can enjoy Cantonese classics in a special interpretation.

There is also an outdoor swimming pool, which is heated in winter, and a small but cozy spa center that takes visitors away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis.

Please note that only a few rooms and suites offer harbor views. However, regardless of the choice, you will be impressed by the interior and decorative elements of the rooms - from pale purple rugs to winged leather headboards and window blinds that evoke old Hong Kong.

The Peninsula

The Peninsula reflects the city's cosmopolitan history, as it is part of Kowloon's waterfront, which has been built for almost a century, which is almost an eternity by the standards of a Chinese city. The front door is guarded by stone fu dogs along with corridor guards in snow-white hats. In the lobby, guests can enjoy afternoon tea accompanied by string quartets. In general, small pleasant details can be seen everywhere, such as traditional dim sum baskets and silver-tipped chopsticks stored on the mezzanine. The hotel offers various room options. The interiors are decorated in cream colors, dark veneers, and gold and feature a large number of high-tech amenities.

The original wing houses a music room with an archive and various artifacts, such as handmade menus made of silk, handwritten BOA Clipper tickets or memorabilia from 1997. On the top floor of a separate tower of this top-rated Hong Kong hotel, there is a high-class spa, a swimming pool with a picturesque view of the harbor. The Felix Bar, designed by Philippe Starck, deserves special attention; the establishment still retains a futuristic style even after 30 years of operation.

EAST

EAST, as the name suggests, is located on the eastern part of Hong Kong Island, offering alternative views of the harbor. As a rule, this hotel is chosen by travelers on business trips, but there are many amenities for tourists who come to relax and explore the city, such as

  • rooftop bar;
  • a first-class restaurant;
  • an outdoor swimming pool, etc.

The guest rooms provide large floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Victoria Harbor, stretching to the old runway of Kai Tak Airport.

The hotel is seven metro stops from Central, and the surrounding areas are rich in interesting sights and attractions. From climbing Parker Mountain for amazing views of the city and photographing the vibrant Yik Cheong Monster Building, a 1960s-era residential complex, to Electric Road, which is lined with some of the best street food in Hong Kong.

Mandarin Oriental

Few hotels can boast such a rich history as the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2023. It was here that Christian Dior presented his boutique collection in Asia, Muhammad Ali stopped on his way to Beijing, where John Lennon met David Bowie for the last time, and Margaret Thatcher pondered aspects of the never-implemented British-Chinese declaration. It's not just the legendary past that attracts guests to one of Hong Kong's finest hotels. The Mandarin Oriental's facilities include a three-level spa and ten restaurants and bars. We recommend that you find time to visit the newly renovated Man Wah and the Japanese Izakaya with its maximalist interior and lively bar.

Hari

As soon as you enter this quaint Hong Kong hotel located in Wan Chai, off the busy Lockhart Road stretching from Admiralty to Causeway Bay, you immediately feel the relaxed atmosphere that is evident in both the interior and the unobtrusive service. The design was developed by Tara Bernerd from London, who brought an attractive aesthetic to every detail:

velvet in golden brown and blue shades in the cozy lobby lounge; orange chairs and green plaster walls in the Italian restaurant Lucciola; burgundy colors, pink roses, and an origami ceiling in Zoku, a Japanese restaurant specializing in Japanese cuisine; a green outdoor terrace, an ideal place for your favorite drinks.

The Hari also boasts a collection of contemporary art, including three-dimensional images, digital works, and works by young and up-and-coming Hong Kong artists, all curated by London's Pontone Gallery.

Fullerton Ocean Park

The Fullerton Ocean Park is Hong Kong's first luxury hotel located on the south side of the island, offering stunning views of Ap Lei Pi, the South China Sea with its sparkling green waters, and Aberdeen Harbor. Additionally, the hotel is close to the popular Ocean Park theme park and the modern Water World water park. There are beautiful beaches and barbecue facilities nearby, as well as numerous hiking trails for those who enjoy walking. At the same time, you are still 15 minutes away from the city center by car, so this place is often chosen for a relaxing family vacation. Among the many amenities available to guests are the following:

  • a huge swimming pool;
  • a variety of dining options specializing in Singaporean, Cantonese, Italian, and international cuisines;
  • the luxurious Bamford Spa with hydrotherapy pools and amazing ocean views.

Fullerton Ocean Park offers various categories of rooms - from standard apartments with sea views to spacious penthouse suites with private pools and sun terraces. All rooms are decorated in soothing pastel colors - pistachio and cream.

Hotel Icon

This unpretentious yet popular hotel in Hong Kong welcomes guests with the largest indoor vertical garden in Asia. Another feature of Hotel Icon is that it also serves as an educational institution for hospitality students from the nearby Polytechnic Institute. However, don't worry: the staff at the hotel is so good at their job that you will never know which of them is an intern.

The hotel has an on-site restaurant, Above and Beyond, designed by Sir Terence Conran. The restaurant is in great demand among both locals and tourists. During the day, it serves delicious dim sum, and in the evening - more complex Cantonese dishes, such as lobster with black truffle or barbecued pork with honey glaze.

The spacious and modern rooms are decorated in pastel colors and filled with a variety of useful gadgets, from power banks to teeth whitening kits.

Murray

The history of this hotel dates back to 1969; at that time, the building received several significant awards recognizing advanced energy-saving design. After 50 years, the property has been transformed into a magnificent five-star hotel thanks to the efforts of Foster + Partners. The Murray's accommodation options include more than 300 rooms, some of the largest in the city. The rooms are decorated in blue, steel gray, and black, with Japanese electronic toilets and large marble bathrooms.

Guests will also enjoy exceptional food and beverage, including a happy hour in the lobby and afternoon tea served on the terrace. However, the main event that should not be missed is a visit to the Popinjays rooftop bar, which offers amazing views.

Eaton

Looking for a more budget-friendly vacation, we recommend paying attention to this cool hotel in Hong Kong. The four-star Eaton is located around the corner from the Temple Street night market in Yau Ma Tei, and the area itself looks like the perfect backdrop to an old Chinese action movie. Accommodation options include rooms ranging in size from 17 to 56 square meters, with 1970s-style cork-paneled walls and accent orange clocks.

The main highlight of the hotel is the Eaton Workshop. This is a network of multimedia coworking spaces that regularly hosts movie screenings and live performances, art exhibitions, and more. The culinary scene is also worthy of attention. In particular, we recommend visiting the Yat Tung Heen restaurant, which specializes in Cantonese cuisine, as well as the Terrible Baby bar, which serves cocktails made in an environmentally friendly way.
